Taking Action

While reading the old testament like I am right now, I always find myself getting super frustrated with the Israelites. Anyone else? I always wonder what is going on in their heads. I mean you literally watched as God plagued Egypt, parted the red sea, destroyed the pharaoh's army, guide you by a pillar of fire by night and a cloud by day. You watched as water came from a rock and manna fell from the sky. Yet you STILL continue to live your life as if you were in captivity. Only this time captivated by false gods and old sins, things you were not so willing to give up so easily. Then I get even more frustrated as I get into the prophets. Did you know that the Israelites had about 16 different prophets that came to them in the span of about 100 years? What did all these prophets have in common? They were sent to WARN the Israelites to stop following the evil ways of the world, or God would give them over to it and they would be brought to ruin. The Israelites would repent, go back to God for a while, but fall back again into sin. Their foundation was never strong in God. I mean 16 prophets, right? As I read and get more irritated, I began to reflect. What about now though?

I surprise myself as I realize that in this time now, we Christians are much worse than the Israelites were. Christianity is the major belief in the U.S.A. Yet I have yet to see this being the case. Many of these "Christians" are living passively, saying that oh yeah they read the bible, and they pray once and a while. Maybe go to church during a holiday. But Jesus calls us to take action in our faith. If anyone listens to his words and puts them into action, their faith has a strong foundation. Jesus doesn't just want us to listen to what he says and pass it on as a distant memory or philosophy, He wants us to use HIs words and take them to heart. Make them a part of our daily lives and let them rule our decisions. Let's take action, not letting God down, and building ourselves up to be the Jesus follower that is in the playing field instead of on the sidelines. Be the example that other Christians and Non-Christians look up to when they think of our faith. Be the light for Christ, my dear friend and let it burn bright.
